Khroma Quartet are Silver Medalists at Fischoff!

The Khroma Saxophone Quartet have won second place in the Senior Division-Winds/Brass at the 46th Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.

Hosted in South Bend, Indiana, The Fischoff is billed as the nation's largest chamber music competition, and is among the oldest and most prestigious competitions of its kind. The competition is open to ensembles of three to six members in either string or wind categories, and in Junior (under age 18) and Senior Divisions (age 18 and older). The Fischoff Competition has long served as a starting point for professional careers.

The Khroma Saxophone Quartet was founded at Illinois in the Fall of 2018. Their name Khroma "represents the nuance of sonic colors which enables the ensemble to perform a variety of styles and genres ranging from transcriptions to contemporary works."

The group is comprised of Doctor of Musical Arts candidate Wilson Poffenberger (tenor), and Master of Music students Scott Augustine (alto), Michael Chapa (baritone), and Anne Kunkle (soprano)

The Khroma Quartet performed at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago in December 2018.

The quartet’s journey was supported by the Uhlenhop Student Travel Fund, courtesy of generous School of Music donors Paul and Virginia Uhlenhop.

Members of the quartet are students of U of I Saxophone Professor Debra Richtmeyer.
